How Small Do Olde English Pocket Beagles Actually Get?

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me how big my puppies will get, I could probably buy another dog. It is the number one question we get here at Perfect Pocket Beagles, and for good reason. When you are looking for a miniature companion, you want to know exactly what to expect once they are fully grown.

Let's get right to the numbers. On average, an adult Olde English Pocket Beagle will typically stand about 11 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 14 and 16 pounds.

When our puppies are 8 weeks old and finally ready to leave here for their new homes, they usually weigh a tiny 3 to 5 pounds.

Of course, average just means average. Nature always throws in some variety. Over the years I have seen them stay as incredibly small as 8 inches tall and 8 pounds. On the flip side, I have also seen them grow to be 12.5 inches tall and tip the scales at 25 pounds.

You might notice that 25 pounds sounds a bit heavy for a short dog. That brings up a very important rule we follow in our breeding program: we measure our dogs by height, not weight.

A dog's weight can fluctuate wildly based on a few different things. First is genetics. Some dogs naturally inherit a thick, stocky build, while others have a much more dainty and delicate frame. Beyond their natural build, a dog's daily diet and how much exercise they get will completely change what the scale says. A pocket beagle can be a lean athlete or a chunky couch potato depending on their lifestyle. Measuring their height gives you the true, structural picture of how big they actually are.

At the end of the day, whether they end up on the daintier side or grow into a stocky little tank, they stay perfectly sized for your lap.
