Fun Fact About Pocket Beagles

Did you know that a pocket beagles coloring will usually change for the first year of their life? On a traditional tricolor beagle, their head and ears are predominately black at birth. This will turn to that classic brown color over the course of about a year. If the pup has any white on its head or ears it will stay white, although the white portions may shrink some as the brown comes in. This is true also for standard beagles, not just pockets. Here is a photo of my dog, Oakley, with her brand new baby. She looked just like her puppy when she was born. Compare the coloring of her head and ears with her pup to get an idea of the changes that take place. This puppy will eventually look just like her mom.
